This is the first release candidate which is meant to become the Gold release if no more bugs or problems arise.
It is released on 20 May 2007.

1) Download phpbb3 RC1 from the above link given. It is available in ZIP (2.03MB) and bz2 (1.31MB) format.
2) After download, upload the ZIP package via file manager or ftp to the root directory (or any folder you want).
Extract the contents of the ZIP you have uploaded using the file manager extract button.
For my example, my forum will be at
http://phpbb3.110mb.com/phpbb3 ( <-- Fake URL, for example only)
3) Access to the forum (
http://phpbb3.110mb.com/phpbb3 for my case), you see the following:
4) Click on the
Install tab and click
Next.
5) There will be an
Installation Compatibility test.
Everything should be okay. Just click
Next6) You need to enter your database configuration. (You need to create a database and user and assign privileges to that user in your account first.)
Change the prefix if you want to install mutiple phpbb forums on the same database.
7) If everything is correct, you should get a
Successful connection notice.
Else check your database configuration OR whether you created a database OR whether you have assign privileges to that user.
8 ) Create an administrator account. It is the best that the administrator password is different from your database password, however you can still use the same password as your database password.
9) If everything is correct, you should get a
Tests passed notice.
Else check the Administrator configuration again.
10) phpbb will now write the configuration file. Click
Next to proceed.
11) You will now reached the advanced settings of the forum.
Note: You can ignore this part and click next as you can login to your admin account later to change.
12) It tells you that the forum tables have being created and populated with initial data.
Click
Next again.
13) Well Done. You have finished the installation of phpbb 3 RC1.
14) Please delete, move or rename the
install directory before you use your board. If this directory is still present, only the Administration Control Panel (ACP) will be accessible.
